A food scientist is a person with academic training in chemistry, biology and the physical sciences who applies this knowledge to support the food retailing and food service industry by applying a wide range of scientific knowledge and testing to maintain a great tasting, high quality, safe and abundant food supply.

The food scientist allows the consumer to make the best use of food resources and optimize efficiency leading to the lowest costs and highest value.
